What is IPS?

Indian Patent Stone (IPS), also known as cement oxide floors and walls, is essentially a smooth cement finish available in various colors, free from visible aggregates. Once a favored flooring option, IPS is recognized for its rustic charm and natural look, and it is regaining popularity as an alternative to traditional materials like vitrified tiles and marble.

The images above showcase some of the IPS projects we have completed.

IPS flooring was a popular choice in India until the 1990s and can still be found in many older homes in Kolkata, Goa, and Kerala.

Renowned for its durability, low maintenance, and cost-effectiveness compared to other conventional materials, IPS is a versatile option suitable for flooring, walls, bathtubs, play pools, seating, and built-in tables.

IPS features a distinctive patchiness that enhances its rustic appeal and fine hairline cracks that form a unique pattern on the surface without compromising structural integrity.

Why Jyamiti & Sea's IPS?

At Jyamiti & Sea, we have invested time in numerous projects to understand the material, enhance our mix, and adjust our process to create the IPS we now produce.

This IPS is not only more durable but also offers superior resistance to surface cracks compared to other market options. We ensure a smoother finish while maintaining the rustic charm of the material, making it a popular choice for many projects.

When you select us you can trust that you are getting one of the finest IPS services in the market.

FAQs

Q. In which locations do we offer our cast-in-situ IPS services?

A. Our cast-in-situ IPS services are currently available exclusively in Goa and Bangalore.

Q. What is the duration for IPS installation?

A. For a small area under 300 sq ft, IPS typically takes a minimum of about 3 weeks, with longer timelines for larger spaces. Additionally, certain IPS designs may require more time to cast. Due to a shortage of skilled labor, increasing the team size on demand is not feasible, making it challenging to crunch timelines.

Q. What color options are available?

A. By mixing different pigments, a wide range of colors can be created. While we strive for perfect color matching, variations may occur due to the manual mixing process and the interaction of cement with pigments. Therefore, it's advisable to remain open to slight color variations when selecting IPS as the material.

Q. Is IPS porous and does it absorb spills and stains?

A. Yes, IPS is naturally porous. However, applying wax polish provides a reasonably liquid and stain-resistant finish.

Q. Will IPS develop cracks?

A. Yes, hairline cracks are a natural characteristic of IPS and may appear soon after casting. While it's challenging to create completely crack-free IPS, we have refined our techniques and materials to reduce crack occurrence compared to standard IPS. That said, it's best to embrace these cracks as part of the IPS's aesthetic rather than perceive them as defects.

Q. Is maintaining IPS difficult?

A. Not at all. IPS primarily requires regular mopping, which is common in most homes and commercial spaces. A well-maintained floor will develop its own shine and water and stain resistance over time.
